Getting To SB Open Streets

No matter how you enjoy our day of free fun in the streets, one thing’s for sure…you’ve got to get here to do it!  Let us count the ways!

Live Locally? Keep it green and bike, skate, roll or walk to SB Open Streets ¡Calles Vivas! Just head down to East Cabrillo Boulevard from any connecting street. You’ll have easy access without the wait or cost for parking. While you are encouraged to ride your bike throughout our entire event route to get the most out of SBOS, you’ll also find many spots to park and lock your bike, including self-serve bike racks at our activity zones (be sure to bring your own lock)!

By Car or Motorcycle

We strongly encourage using public transit options like the bus or shuttle, but if you must drive, please consider car pooling!  The best ways to access SB Open Streets are via the following Highway 101 exits:

        • Milpas Street Southbound 101 Exit 96A Take a right off exit, over train tracks, then turn left onto Calle Puerto Vallarta and take second right onto Corona Del Mar and proceed to our controlled crossing at Cabrillo Boulevard, for entry to the hourly fee Cabrillo West Parking Lot (see Parking Map).
        • Milpas Street Northbound 101 Exit 96A At end of ramp, proceed around the roundabout under the Freeway overpass, down Milpas Street over train tracks, then turn left onto Calle Puerto Vallarta and take second right onto Corona Del Mar and proceed to our controlled crossing at Cabrillo Boulevard, for entry to the hourly fee Cabrillo West Parking Lot (see Parking Map).
        • Garden Street Southbound 101 Exit 96C – Take a right off exit onto Garden Street and either:
          • Take a right just before Information Center into the hourly fee Garden Street Parking Lot (see Parking Map) OR
          • Proceed straight to our controlled crossing at Cabrillo Boulevard, for entry to the hourly fee Palm Park Parking Lot (see Parking Map).
        • Garden Street Northbound 101 Exit 96B Keep to the left during exit for Garden Street. Take a left off exit onto Garden Street, then follow either option above.
        • Castillo Street Southbound 101 Exit 97 Take a right off exit onto Castillo Street and proceed throughMontecito Street, then either:
          • Take a right into SB Carriage Museum and ballpark parking lot (see Parking Map). OR
          • Proceed to Cabrillo Boulevard, take a right and then turn left at second traffic signal into SB Harbor Main Parking Lot (free 90-minute and hourly fee options available. See Parking Map).  Waterfront Shuttle (50¢ – see map below) is available to get to event route at Sterns Wharf.
        • Bath Street Northbound 101 Exit 97 Proceed straight off Exit on Bath Street. At first traffic signal, take a left onto Haley Street. Take a left at next traffic signal onto Castillo Street. Proceed under Freeway overpass, through Montecito Street, then follow either option above.
        • Los Patos Way Southbound 101 Exit 95 (Limited parking option) – Proceed under railroad overpass and take first right into Andrée Clark Bird Refuge parking lot (see Parking Map), or find valid parking on street.

By Bus

If walking or biking to SB Open Streets is too far, you can take advantage of any number of MTD buses and even load your bike on the rack in front at no extra charge! Many MTD bus lines are available, all of which run to the main Transit Center downtown. You can then take the Downtown Electric Shuttle (50¢ – running every 15 minutes – see below) on State Street down to Sterns Wharf to exit and join us for SB Open Streets. By Train

We encourage our friends from L.A. & parts South, and San Luis Obispo County & parts North to make it a car-free weekend and take Amtrak trains to and from SB Open Streets, helping reduce freeway congestion and carbon emissions as well. Amtrak also permits passengers to bring their bikes on the train (though advanced bike reservations are required*). Following are Amtrak train numbers and departure times from L.A. and S.L.O. for Saturday, October 24th:

From L.A.’s Union Station
Train #1761*: Departing L.A. at 7:50AM; arrives in S.B. at 10:19AM
Train #1790*: Departing S.B. at 4:35PM; arrives in L.A. at 7:15PM
*These two trains from LA will be equipped with extra bicycle carrying capacity to serve SB Open Streets participants.

From S.L.O. Station
Train #774: Departing S.L.O. at 6:55AM; arrives in S.B. at 9:24AM
Train #777: Departing S.B. at 5:42PM; arrives in S.L.O. at 8:30PM

Downtown SB Parking Options

Parking will be most accessible and available the earlier you arrive, and will undoubtedly fill up in parking lots close to our event route.  If you don’t mind a brief walk or shuttle ride, please consider one of the many public parking lots and structures along and near State Street, as seen below.  Click on the map image to view a larger downtown parking map.
