Locals: The easiest ways for locals to get to Open Streets are to bike, walk, skate, or take the Seaside Shuttle. They’re the most fun too! If driving is necessary, there will also be community parking lots open for the event. All the details are below.
Out-of-Town Visitors: You’ll see below that there are plenty of fun ways to get to Carpinteria Open Streets without driving! Try a train or bus, or if you must drive, please carpool and check out the designated parking lots listed below.
Carpinteria residents and neighbors coming from Santa Barbara can find an easy bike route to Open Streets on the SB County Bike Map. Coming from Ventura? It’s also an easy ride! Check out the Ventura County Bike Map for suggestions. You can also use Google Maps on your phone to find a bike route and get directions and estimated riding times. Bring a lock – there will be bike racks throughout the event for parking and locking your bike when you want a break from riding. Bikes on trains – if you book a Pacific Surfliner train ticket, you can reserve a spot for you bike, but act early, bike space is limited. Bike on bus info is below.
In Carpinteria you can use the Seaside Shuttle – it runs every 20 minutes for the duration of Open Streets for only $0.50/$0.25 and children under 45” tall ride free. There are no bike racks.
From Santa Barbara take the SB MTD Line 20 or 21x. Fare is only $1.75/$0.85 and children under 45” tall ride free. Each bus can carry ONLY two bikes and bikes are not allowed inside the bus except for folding bikes held by passengers.
From Ventura take the Coastal Express for $3 – it only takes 20 minutes from downtown Ventura and you can put your bike in one of the luggage bays!
The Pacific Surfliner train service is a fantastic option for visitors coming from San Luis Obispo County, Goleta, Santa Barbara, Ventura County, and beyond! The Carpinteria stop is located in the middle of Open Streets! There will even be an extra train car sponsored by Pacific Surfliner to fit more visitors (and bicycles) traveling from Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Get on board at a station near you and don’t forget to make a bike reservation if you plan on bringing your trusty steed!
We strongly encourage using active transportation, a bus, or a train to get to the event, but if you need to drive please consider carpooling and try one of the designated parking lots listed below. On-street parking is also available but will be more impacted the closer you get to the event location.
Aliso Elementary School: From Highway 101 Southbound take Carpinteria Ave. exit 87B. Continue on Carpinteria Ave. and turn right onto 7th Street and take an immediate right into the Aliso Elementary School parking lot. Lot closes at 7PM.
This location is across the street from the 9th Street portion of Open Streets.
Carpinteria Middle School: From Highway 101 take the Casitas Pass Rd. exit and travel southwest on Casitas Pass Rd. toward Carpinteria Ave. Turn left onto Carpinteria Ave. and take an immediate right into the Carpinteria Middle School Parking lot. Lot closes at 7PM
This location is one block from the 8th Street portion of Open Streets.
Carpinteria High School: From Highway 101 Southbound take Linden Ave. exit 86B and turn left on Linden Ave. toward Foothill Dr. Turn left on Foothill Dr. and right into the Carpinteria High School parking lot. From Highway 101 Northbound take the Casitas Pass Rd. exit 86 and turn right on Casitas Pass Rd. toward Foothill Dr. Turn left on Foothill Dr. and travel west until you reach Carpinteria High School on the right. Lot closes at 7PM.
This location is a one mile walk/bike ride from the event.
